Hudson County Democratic Organization Gathers to Endorse Hillary Clinton, Party Ticket for Primary Elections

J82A8943sm.jpgDuring the Hudson County Democratic Organization’s (HCDO) press conference today at the William J. Brennan Courthouse in Jersey City, HCDO Chairman and Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto proudly announced the party's endorsement of Hillary Clinton for President in the upcoming June 7th Primary Election. The event was attended by elected Democratic leaders from throughout the county.

"Hudson County Democrats are fighting to give working people the opportunity for a better life, and Hillary Clinton's entire political career has been focused on that same priority,” said Chairman Prieto. “Whether it's expanding and protecting voter rights, advocating for higher wages and more jobs or demanding equal pay for equal work and equal treatment for everyone, our focus could not be more aligned and I am so proud to endorse Hillary for President today."

In addition to the presidential endorsement, Chairman Prieto also announced the party’s endorsements of Congressman Albio Sires, Congressman Donald Payne, Jr., Congressman Bill Pascrell, Hudson County Sheriff Frank X. Schillari and Hudson County Register Candidate Diane Coleman.

Hudson County Democratic Organization announces endorsed candidates for State Assembly, County Executive

Standing together with numerous prominent Hudson County Democratic leaders, HCDO Chairman Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto announced the party’s endorsed candidates for State Assembly and County Executive in a news conference today at the historic Brennan Courthouse in Jersey City. Chairman Prieto was joined by Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, North Bergen Mayor and State Senator Nick Sacco, Union City Mayor and State Senator Brian Stack, State Senator Sandra Cunningham, Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis, Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer, West New York Mayor Felix Roque, Kearny Mayor Al Santos, Weehawken Mayor Rich Turner and several other local Democratic leaders.

At the event the party announced its support for incumbent Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise and incumbent Assembly members Vincent Prieto and Angelica Jimenez from the 32nd district and Raj Mukerji from the 33rd district, as well as Assembly candidates Nicholas Chiaravalloti and Denise Ridley in the 31st district and Annette Chaparro in the 33rd district.

“This Hudson County Democratic ticket represents the values of our party and I am very excited to renew our support of several worthy incumbents and welcome three new faces to our team,” said Chairman Prieto. “Together these candidates show what the Hudson County Democratic Organization is all about – diversity, unity and an unbreakable commitment to fighting for the working families of Hudson County.”

HCDO Freeholder Slate for 2014 Primary Announced

Hudson County Democratic Organization Chairman Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto announced the party's support of nine IMG_8393c.jpgcandidates for Hudson County Freeholder this week. Each candidate has the support of the HCDO and will appear on the party's ballot line along with U.S. Senator Cory Booker and either Congressmen Albio Sires, Donald Payne or Bill Pascrell. Each candidate also has the support of their local Mayor. 

"I am proud to stand behind each of these outstanding candidates for Freeholder who all embody the values of the Democratic Party and are ready to fight for working families in Hudson County," said Chairman Prieto.

HCDO Chairman Speaker Vincent Prieto Endorses Caridad Rodriguez for Freeholder

A West New York Commissioner and former State Assemblywoman, Rodriguez will have the party's support in the upcoming June primary.

Prieto endorses Currie for full term as State Party Chairman

Assembly Speaker-elect and Hudson County Democratic Chairman Vincent Prieto is announcing his support of New Jersey Democratic State Committee Chairman John Currie for a full term. Speaker-elect Prieto released the following statement:
"I spoke to Chairman Currie Wednesday morning and told him personally that he has my support for a full term as our State Party Chairman. John and I have known each other for many years and I have great respect for his passion, determination and effectiveness as a Democratic leader whether in Passaic County or beyond. Chairman Currie is the right choice to lead our party forward at a time when we have a real opportunity to help elect Democrats at all levels of government who will fight for the middle class and working families."

Cory Booker wins big in Hudson County

Hudson County came out big for Newark Mayor Cory Booker in today’s special U.S. Senate election, despite a last-minute push for Jersey City votes by Booker’s Republican opponent, Steve Lonegan.

With 99 percent of Hudson County precincts reporting, Booker has won 46,893 votes, or 78 percent, to Lonegan's 12,547, or 21 percent, according to preliminary results from the Hudson County Clerk’s office.

Hudson County Democratic Organization candidates win primary races by wide margins

State Sen. Brian Stack, Union City’s mayor, told supporters Tuesday night that the key to his political success is that he’s “kept it about the community, not about a political machine.”

Hudson County Democratic Organization-backed candidates swept the state Senate and Assembly races over lesser known challengers in Tuesday’s primary elections.

In the state Senate races, incumbent Democratic state senators Sandra B. Cunningham, 31st Legislative District, and Stack, 33rd Legislative District, ran unopposed.

State Sen. Nicholas Sacco, meanwhile, won handily over challenger Francisco Torres in the 32nd Legislative District.

Sacco won 9,596 votes to Torres’ 1,265.
